I’ve lost count of the number of Christians who’ve told me they either stopped attending church or left their church to join another one because they couldn’t make any friends there. They report that the church people were friendly enough. They were hospitable and welcoming. As one person told me, “They’re nice to you, but no one becomes your friend.” And it hurts when all that friendliness leads only to friendlessness. (의역) 수많은 사람들이 교회를 떠나고 있다. 그들이 교회에서 친구를 만들 수 없었기 때문이다. 그들에 의하면 교회 사람들은 충분히 친절하고, 잘 환영하고 환대한다. 하지만, “교회 사람들은 당신에게 친절할 것이지만, 당신의 친구가 되려하진 않을거에요." 라는 누군가의 말처럼, 교회는 그저 친절함으로는 가득차 있지만, 진실한 우정은 없는 그래서 결국은 친구 없는 곳으로 전락해버렸다. 비통한 현실이다.
